My faith has found a resting place

This song has been stuck in my head all week. We’re going to introduce this on Sunday at Beachside. It’s an old tune (1891) but the truth of the lyrics are amazing. A friend of mine re-wrote the melody. You can hear it on the new “Shine out” cd by The People’s Church on amazon.com (click this link).

Here are the lyrics;

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

Chorus: I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.

My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.

Well, not just in my mind. I’m actually going there. It should be a good couple days hanging at The Cove (Billy Graham’s place) in Asheville, N.C. Bob Coy from Calvary Chapel in Ft. Lauderdale is the speaker. My brother and I will be leading worship with Michael Neale as well.

I’m excited about going but this is the first time I’ve flown this far with my brother. He’s a great pilot and did real well on all his testing this week (not something you want to squeak by on!). Fortunately for me, I’ve watched “Man vs. Wild” so if we go down in the mountains and live I should be able to make it out.

I mean he looks like he knows what he’s doing, right?

Worship Fav’s

I know that worship is not about the song. However, I do know that certain songs seem to draw people in at a greater level. Whether it’s because it was written out of pain, revelation, or simply just well written and singable. Here’s a short list of the songs that people seem to really dive into at our place….

“King” – Tree 63

“Love Song” – The Mill Band/Jason Morant

“Healer” – Hillsong (check out the new website Integrity Music put together)

“All Because of Jesus” – Steve Fee

“Beautiful Jesus” – Kristian Stanfill

“Mighty Fortress” – Chad Jarnigan/Michael Neale

What are the songs that God is using with you or at your church?

I’m getting everything squared away to take off for a few days. I have an exciting week coming up, part of which I want you to be a part of. This week Michael Neale and band will be playing several worship concerts across the state of Florida. We’ll be in Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, Ormond Beach, and Deland.

Here’s your part, if you’re in the area consider joining us this Friday night, June 6th, 7:00 P.M., at The Beachside Church here in Ormond Beach. It’s going to be a great time for area churches to get together, enjoy some great music, and worship together.

In addition, if you are a worship leader or serve on your worship team, you’re invited to come and hang with us on Sat, June 7th from 9:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. A bunch of us worship leaders and team members (this includes media, tech, etc.) are going to be gathering together to learn how to better do what we do. Michael will be taking time to teach as well as a time for Q & A. Also, we will spend time with each other discussing what works, what doesn’t, comparing notes, encouraging each other, etc. The cost is $25 and lunch is included. We’ve had great response so far but there’s still room available if you want to join us. Simply send us an email at office@thebeachsidechurch.com and let us know you plan to attend.

Leaders that influence

Here’s a short list of some leaders who currently have influence on me.

Robbie O’Brien – Lead Pastor of The Beachside Church. Robbie is an incredible visionary. God has used him over the past several years to help jump start an incredible movement in the Daytona Beach area. His vision for the future is massive and will have great impact.

Michael Neale – Worship Arts Pastor of The Peoples Church in Franklin, TN. Michael has been a friend, mentor, coach, etc for me for some time now. He’s one of the wisest guys I’ve ever met especially when it pertains to church life. I’m thankful for his willingness to take young guys under his wing and teach.

Gary Powell (my dad) – Pastor of Oasis Christ Fellowship in Ormond Beach. I’ve never known anyone with so much patience. He truly loves people and embodies the term “Pastor”. He’s devoted himself to pray and serve people. I aspire to have his kind of patience (something I have a deficiency of)

Carlos Whittaker – Programming director for Buckhead Church/ Blogger. I get a lot of creative ideas from Carlos. If there not from Carlos, they’re from a link or connection I’ve made through his blog. I appreciate his influence in the blog world.

They’re are many more like Craig Groeschel, Perry Noble, Tony Morgan, Rob Bell, etc. These are just a few….

Home Sweet Home…..for a minute.

Daniel and I flew back from snowy Pittsburgh yesterday afternoon. The conference was great. Being able to pick Neale’s brain for a weekend was invaluable. He has some really cool plans coming up that’s going to be a great resource to us worship leaders. Also, we flew first class (or business class) for the first time. The lady asked us if we wanted to upgrade and it seemed like a no brainer at the time. It will be hard to travel coach again unless my legs somehow shrink my 6 inches or so.

I leave tomorrow for the Unleash Conference. I’m really excited to go and learn but I also miss my family when I’m away. I think it’s worth it in the long run. I always come back refreshed, motivated, inspired, encouraged, etc.

I’ll give you updates along the way of how the conference goes.
